ROCK & ROLL!!!

Came across an interview with none other than Steven Tyler in an issue of Elle magazine last night (side note: I have no idea how I have a subscription to Elle magazine...it began arriving in my mailbox a little under a year ago, unbidden.)

The following quote is both hilarious & gross:

Elle: When you and Joe [Perry] competed for women, who won?
ST: Well, we didn't compete, but we did share. And the crabs won.

ewwwwwwwww....

Loving life, loving my country...

Today is January 20, 2009 and we’re only about an hour away from swearing in Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States of America (and of course, the inverse of that is that W is down to his last 60 minutes of the worst presidency I hope I will ever have to endure in my lifetime). It’s one of those moments where I, personally, tend not to say much – because what you end up saying is all cliché, it’s all been said before, it ends up sounding trite in the face of the actual, amazing, historic occasion we’re being confronted with today. But…screw it…I am EXCITED, I am HAPPY, I am HOPEFUL, I cannot wait to see what this man is going to do with the all the trust and goodwill that we as a nation are investing in him. As a leader, Obama seems intent on unifying the country, and as a people, I think we want to unify, to be lead, to persevere towards making all our lives better, to achieve new and positive things. It’s about damn time. And I cannot wait to get started…

And I’ll say again what I said on November 5th, 2008 – I could not be any happier that Barack Obama is the first president that my son will remember.

Our motto

I recently saw a post in Being Savvy about creating a family motto...it sounded fairly hokey, until I read the post and realized we already have one that H. will whisper reverently at bedtime every time T. or I pick up a Dr. Suess book to read to him:

Today is gone
Today was fun
Tomorrow is another one
Every day, from here to there,
Funny things are everywhere

Oh, to be a fly on the wall...

I was completely tickled by word that yesterday, the Supreme Court was debating changing the FCC rules that restrict radio personalities, TV shows, etc from using certain swear words.

The swear words in question were referred to in the Supreme Court's hour long discussion as "the S word" and "the F bomb". that is f'in fantastic...
After last night's indescribably wonderful victory (I feel like I've been holding my breath for months), we broke out our old Olympus camera this morning and captured a few priceless video moments of our baby boy saying "Obama"...and then promptly launching into an Obama-song which devolved into "Bingo was his name-o" a few seconds later :)

I'm thrilled that this is the first president he will remember...

Go Fenway!!

I'm a complete wash-out as a Sox fan this year. I bought into a 10-(wo)man plan many years ago, so I always have at least a few tickets every year, but August 13th was the first game I've been to all season. I haven't even been watching them on TV much during July & August.

Nice game to see, though. T. was at home watching H., so I took my college roommate Mickie, and it was a freakin GORGEOUS night at the ballpark. Warm and windy, and the Sox beat the Rangers 8-4 (it would have been 8-0 if not for Mike "why, Tito, why??????" Timlin).

Our already good seats (4th row bleachers behind Sox bullpen, lots of opportunities to espy pitchers & hot Captains) have been made even better by a) the removal of 2 rows of seats in front of us b) new flooring and c) removal of offending fence that used to be directly in our line of vision. Go Fenway!!

Edward Gorey

This is undoubtedly my favorite Gorey illustration of all time. It's the name that put it over the top.
